RETURNING HOME.
MEN FROM BYRD'S SHIPS. THE CAPTAIN INVALIDED. (Per Press Association). DUNEDIN, This Day. Six men of Admiral R. F. Byrd's ships, Jacob Ruppert and Bear of Oak, land left Dunedin to-day en route tor the United States. Captain Vertigler, who has had to resign on account or ill-health following pneumonia, also 6 The six men represent the dissatisfied element, who complain of their treatment. . . . Lieutenant English, when interviewed, praised the morale and loyalty of the crew generally. He stated tliat the six had resigned for personal reasons. They were 'not destitute, hemg given pas ages and transportation Loss the States. Admiral Byrd had treated them generously. Lieutenant English denied that theie had been any autocracy m this expedition. He said that the test had been applied, and some of the men had failed through lack of, "intestinal fortitude."
