TREND IN AUSTRALIAN TRADE.
(Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, May 29
Speaking of the improved state of trade in Australia, Mr J. Abel (president of the Wellington Manufacturers Association), who returned to-day from a trip there, said a pleasing feature was the definite swing of all trade toward better-quality goods. Ho remarked that at the Clyde Ehgineering Works, Sydney, 12,000 were now employed, against 160 two years ago. One motor firm was behind in deliveries of ears to the extent of 800 vehicles. There seemed no doubt that Australia had thrown off the depression. It seemed that New Zealand was in every respect in as good a financial condition as Australia, and. all that we required here was to create coniidence so that people would loose their purse-strings.
