VOLLEYS AND TEAR BOMBS

With the failure of tlio Federal conciliators to bring the parties to a settlement after a truce ol several days, the striking waterside workers defied controfTot'uay in the most serious outbreak since the strike began. A thousand men made a mass charge along a pier and attacked the police with clubs and stones. The police used tear gas.' bombs, and apparently fired a-few volleys'with shotguns, as several shotgun wounds are reported. The strikers finally dispersed, but threatened to attack later.
