DOCTOR'S ESCAPE
HELD IN RIVER BY MANIAC.
RESCUED WITH DIFFICULTY.

Dr D.*F. Munro, Government Medical Officer at Gloucester, on the north coast, had a terrifying experience with a powerful man he was conyeying to hospital for treatment for epilepsy, when his patient ran amok and attempted to drown Him in the Manning River'
Dr. Munro was driving his car, with "his patient alongside him, and there were four farm employees accompanying them.- Suddenly the patient, who Weighs 18 stone, induced the doctor to stop his car, upon which he seized the doctor and carried him bodily as though he were an infant to the river, waded.in and held him under water.
The other men rushed to the scene but were unable tot pit their individual strength against the maniac's. They therefore hurled stones, one of which found its mark and the maniac fell, releasing his hold on the doctor. Immediately the men dragged the pair from Dr. Munro is in a serious condition, 'while*,his patient is suffering from a fractured skull.
