HINDS. At the Bible Study Circle, held at the Vicarage last week, Mr Williams, a member of the Sumner Bible Class, gave an interesting lesson on the Parable of the Sower. The fortnightly eucliro party,, in aid of the school funds was held in the school on Saturday evening, when there was a good attendance. Prizes were won by Mrs O'Connor and Mr F. Hood, .sen. Supper was provided at the close of the games. There was a large congregation at the monthly family service held in St. Luke's Church on Sunday morning. Four christenings were conducted. Mrs E. W. M. Watson was organist. The school re-opened to-day after an extra week's holiday owing to a largo number of the children haying had measles. Miss B. Taylor took up her duties as assistant mistress, in place of Miss Limbrick, who was recently married.

STAVELEY. The Rev. .G- B. and Mrs Jardine have again taken up residence at the manse. Mrs Jardine has been ill in Ashburton for some ■' months, but has, recovered sufficiently to return home.' The first of a series of socials organised by the Staveley Hall Society was held on Saturday evening. The competition winners were Mrs E. Aldridge and Mr T. Burgess. The acting-N.G. (Bro. J. Smith) presided at the half-yearly meeting of the Loyal Pioneer Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., on Saturday evening. There was a good attendance, including visiters from Ashburton. There is still a heavy drain on the sick funds of the lodge, eight brethren being voted benefits at the meeting. One candidate was accepted for membership. The election of officers resulted: N.G., Bro. N. Watson; V.G., Bro. R, Glasson; E.S., Bro. J. King.
