Ellmer (Switzerland) 6-1, 6-2, 6-8, 6-1; H. ]\. Austin (England) defeated. H. von Artens (Austria) 6-4, 6-0, 6-3; F. J. Perry (England) defeated H. 0. Hopman Australia) 6-2, 6-3, 6-3; F. G. Hugrea (England) defeated L. Hecht (Czechoslovakia) 6-2, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. • In the doubles, in the second round G. Stefani (Italy) and Taroni defeated C. E. Malfroy and E. Menzel drove powerfully and his service yielded many aces. Sleem came within a point of leading Crawford, two sets to one. Sleem tossed nearly every ball prolonging the rallies until the ball had crossed the net 20 times.. Sleem led in the third set 5-3, and had two set points. Hughes fully extended Hecht, but Perry- easily accounted for Hopman. In the women's singles, in the third round Miss M. C.
