Crawford (Australia) defeated M. Sleem (India) 0-6, 6-1, 7-5, 6-0; -K. Menzel (Czechoslovakia) defeated Mcrath (Australia), 6-2, 6-2, -6-3.; G. von Cramm (Germany) defeated M. Ellmer (Switzerland) 6-1, 6-2, 6-8, 6-1; H. ]\. Austin (England) defeated. H. von Artens (Austria) 6-4, 6-0, 6-3; F. J. Perry (England) defeated H. 0. Hopman Australia) 6-2, 6-3, 6-3; F. G. Hugrea (England) defeated L. Hecht (Czechoslovakia) 6-2, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. • In the doubles, in the second round G. Stefani (Italy) and Taroni defeated C. E. Malfroy and E. D, - Andrews (New Zealand) 10-8, 6-4, .7-5. In tu» third round Quist and D. P.-Turnbull (Australia) defeated Palmien and foertorio .6-1, 6-3, 63. ■ In the women's singles, in the second round Signoria Malero (Spain) defeated Miss Betty Nuthall (England) 8-6, 6-4. In the third round Madame RMathieu (France) defeated Fraulem Horn .(Germany) 6-3, 7-5. ' .:„ . McGrath's two-handed backhand failed to function against Menzel, who played to it continually. Menzel drove powerfully and his service yielded many aces. Sleem came within a point of leading Crawford, two sets to one. Sleem tossed nearly every ball prolonging the rallies until the ball had crossed the net 20 times.. Sleem led in the third set 5-3, and had two set points. Hughes fully extended Hecht, but Perry- easily accounted for Hopman. In the women's singles, in the third round Miss M. C. Scriven (England) defeated Miss Palfrey (England), 6-4, In the mixed doubles, in the second round, A. Quist (Australia) and Miss E. Rvan (United States) defeated Le Sueur (France) and'Miss Andrews, 6-3, 6-1; ,D. P. Turnbull and "Mrs Molesworth (Australia) defeated Mercier and Madame Moreloevillo, 6-4, 6-2.
