WRESTLING.
THE ASHBURTON CONTEST. The Ashburton Wrestling Association will open its season with an excellent professional match, between Rex Bolt and Dr. Fred Meyer in His Majesty's Theatre to-morrow evening. These tivo are both leading American wrestlers, and should give patrons some excellent sport. This will be Bolt's first appearance in New Zealand. Rex Bolt, the "Texan Thunderbolt' (age 27, weight" 2001 b, height 6ft), Avas born in Texas, and started as an amateur at 19 years of age. He was light heavy-weight champion of Texas in 1928, and was runner-up in the tournament in the New York State lor the heavy-weight title, held annually by the State Amateur Athletic Association. Bolt started professional wrestling in 1930 in Los Angeles. He was also engaged' for 18 months by film authorities, and appeared in "The Sign of the Cross" and several other pictures. Since then he has wrestled almost continuously, and has met Bob Kruse and Abe Coleman, taking a win over the , latter. He has also been pitted against Ted Thye, Sammy Stein and Harry Bower. Most of these are known in New Zealand. Bolt was matched against Hugh Nichols for the light heavy-weight title in California _ Bolt is a fine specimen of what physical training can produce. His weight is about the same as that of the lighten section of tho 1934 New Zealand team. His appearance and photographs suggest good matches with Shikina, Detton and Wong Buk Cheung. Bolt features two special holds known as the "windmill wristlock" and tho "little rock cradle." He is very fast and colourful in the ring. Meyer has had several bouts already in New Zealand, and has defeated both Michot Buk Cheung. The exponent of many spectacular holds, Meyer is a hard performer. In America he defeated Stan Pinto and drew with Gus Sonnenberg.
