Mr C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., of Timaru, will be in Wellington this week assisting in the work of the Magistrate's Court.

Captain T. J. Watts \secretary of the United Fire Brigades' Association) inspected the Methven Volunteer Fire Brigade on Saturday afternoon.

Miss Joan Harris, of Allenton, who was one of the successful candidates for a position in the School Dental Clinic Service, left on Saturday evening for Wellington, where she will undertake training as*a probationer dental nurse.

Mr J. E. Carter, for a number of years secretary of the Ashburton Golf Club, was presented with a golf bag and brassie by the president {(Dr. G. I. Miller) on behalf of members on Saturday afternoon.

Mr Keith Phelan, who is leaving Ashburton shortly'for Australia, was met by members of the Baptist Young People's Society, after church last evening and presented with two books by Mr J. Lewis on their behalf. Mr R. H. Ley also spoke on behalf of the church.

The Ashbur'ton Cricket Association on Saturday sent to the relatives of the late Colonel John Studholme a telegram expressing sympathy in his death. The Association also sent a

wreath. Colonel Studholme was patron of the Association, and he donated the shield for which the senior grade teams compete. Mr H. A. Boddington, a former president, represented the Association at the funeral in Christchureh to-day. -
