THE WEATHER.
SHARP FROST THIS MORNING. 8.2 DEGREES IN ASHBURTON. * A frost of 8.2 degrees intensity, the most severe experienced this winter, was recorded in Ashburton this morning, following a cold night. One of 6.7 degrees was registered on May 19. The sun shone in a blue sky without clouds to-day, and there was only a light breeze. Extremes of shade temperature yesterdav and last night were 45.3 degrees and 27.7 degrees, both these readings being the lowest this winter. Fourteen points of rain fell in Ashburton during the 24-hour period up to 9 a.m. to-day.
TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— General inference: A very intense anti-cyclone covers New Zealand and the Tasman Sea, the barometer reading 30.7 inches in Cook Strait area. _ A depression, moving eastward, is passing to the north of the Dominion. The forecast fc the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: — Light to moderate and variable winds, south-easterlies predominating in Marlborough. Weather fine, with moderate day. but cold night temperatures. Some frost and morning fogs. Seas smooth to moderate.
