STRIKES IN UNITED STATES. FIFTEEN DEAD, HUNDREDS HURT (United Press Association—Copyright). NEW YORK, May 23/ The strike wave, which is rapidly approaching a record for; all time, is accompanied : by unparalleled violence throughout tile nation. Fifteen persons are dead as the result of battles between pickets and police, and hundreds have been Wounded;The position reached a climax tonight with the ordering of State troops into Toledo, where a general strike is threatened in sympathy with the 2000 automobile workers who are on strike. The strike of longshoremen and seamen is virtually paralysing shipping in the Gulf of Mexico and.on the Pacific Coast, while southern ore mine strikers are engaged in almost daily clashes with strike-bearers and the authorities. The steel-workers, are preparing to strike in the middle of June. Many others are tSgrSatening. ; ■,-' The paramount demands consist or recognition of unions and* higher wages.
