"Izvestia" throws some doubt on Germany's sincerity :n signing the Polish Pact.
It says that Herr Hitler's determination in signing must call forth the question whether it means real renunciation by Germany, or is it merely a political manoeuvre, also what is the compensation and at whose expense Germany hopes to receive it* for renunciation ? WELCOMED BY THE LEAGUE. POLAND'S SCEPTICAL VIEW. (United Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.40 p.m.) LONDON, January 29. The. Geneva correspondent of the "Daily Mail" says that the GermanPolish pact is regarded in League circles as being one of the most important events since the war. Much credit is given to Herr Hitler for removing one of the major obstacles to an understanding of an armaments general conciliation. The "Guardian's" Geneva correspondent says that Poland regards the League sceptically owing to the capitulation of Japan. The Poles contend that the League's failure was due to tbe weakness of the Western Powers causing the belief that it could not offer support in emergencies. Accordingly the Poles must protect themselves.'
