ENGLAND TO AUSTRALIA. KINGSFORD-SMITH'S FLIGHT. (Received This Day, 11.55 a.m.) AMSTERDAM, September 14. Air Commodore Sir Charles Kings-ford-Smith has arrived by air from Budapest. After testing a sports type of aeroplane which lias a speed of 138 miles an hour, he will go to London to commence a solo flight to Australia. He states that he is not seeking to break the record, but he hopes to conclude the journey in I'ourteen days. Air Commodore Sir Charles Kings-ford-Smith flew from Batavia to Holland by a Dutch K.L.M. 'plane with the intention of making an attempt on the England to Australia record. TL will use a Percival Gull 'plane, a new type of light 'plane that has a high cruising speed. As soon as lie reaches Australia he will make his preparations for his flight to New Zealand in December, when he will pilot a new, type of twin-engined monoplane, flying beside the Southern Cross, which will be piloted by Squadron-Leader T. W. White, of Timaru.
