FIFTY YEARS SYNE. (From the "Guardian,'" Sept. 15,1883.) Methven Ploughing Match.—What is expected to be the premier plougnmg match of the colony talies place at Methven on m-iday, September 28. fShoulcl the weather prove ravourablo, there will doubtless be a large number of people present. The prizes ottered are so liberal that competitors will in all probability, put in an appearance from all parts of the district. The Methven inhabitants deserve to be congratulateu. on their plucky efforts in raising such a large amount as they intend ottering in prizes. A strong committee has been elected to carry out tne arrangements, the president being J. C Yvason, Esq., and the vice-, president, J. ivess, iisq., M.H.K. Ashburton Kittes. —There was a good muster at drill- last night, the company being armed for the first time witn the new short Snider rities and sword bayonets. It was decided to hold a church parade on Sunday, September 23, on which occasion the Asnburton Band will, we undertsano, lend their services. It was announced that the Government quarterly inspection parade would take place on Monday, Cjeptemoer 24. Mount Somers Licensing Committee. At the meeting of the members of the Mount Somers Licensing Committee on Monday the temporary license from John Bo'wick to J. Tisch. Altord Forest Hotel, was confirmed. •
