MEAT FOR BRITAIN
PROPOSAL FOR LEVY REJECTED. CONFLSCT WITH OTTAWA PACT. "CUT" IN IMPORTS URGED. /United Press Association—Copyright). (Received ;% This Day, 12.40 p.m.) LONDON, September 13. The "Evening Standard" says that the Meat Reorganisation Commission rejected a proposal for a levy of a penny in the pound on all imported meat, to yield £9,000,000 annually, which would ensure British farmers a guaranteed price of 38s per cwt for cattle and 56s for sheep. The reason for the rejection of the proposal was the conflict in the Ottawa agreements. The Farmers' Union has asked the Ministry to impose an immediate 'cut' of 53 per cent, in import;* in order to save the live stock industry.
