MINISTER ADRIFT
MR THOMAS'S VENTURE. HANDKERCHIEFS AS SIGNAL. RESCUED JUST AT DARK. United Press Association—Copyright). (Received This Day, 1.20 p.m.) LONDON, September 13. In connection with the mishap to Mr J. H. Thomas (Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs) and throe companions, whose motor-boat broke down 2-J miles off Shorehain (Sussex), it has been ascertained that when the motor failed a fresh sea was running, which washed over the boat, and the occupants had to bail vigorously. A heavy rain made visibility poor, but the Minister and his companions, by tying their handkerchiefs to an oar, which they waved in the air, attracted the notice of a Coastguard, who gave the alarm.
The Shoreham lifeboat was launched and although darkness was approaching, found the fishing party and took them ashore, cold and soaked but cheerful.—British Official Wireless.
