Timaru Ladies' Hockey —A ladies' hockey match, between Timaru and Ashburton teams was played at Timaru on Thursday. From the bully-oft' Ashburton forced Timaru back to their circle, but W. Hunt (Timaru) who was playing well, passed the bail to M. Auld, who drib Died right to the Ashburton line for G. McWhirtei- to shoot a fine sroal. This put Ashburton on their mettle, and they drove Timaru back to their circle, which ended in a corner hit. Miss Thomas was prominent in the attack for Ashburton, but Timaru's backs were too solid. Miss Brooks relieved the position by hard hitting, and fast following up by D. McWhirter and • M.Kerr allowed G. McWhirter to register her second goal. From the bully-off after half-time, Timaru attacked, but the Ashburton halves were now playing well, and forced Timaru to defend. Miss Andrews got down the line with a. fast dribbling rush, but had no one to back her up, and could not beat the Timaru backs. W. Hunt, by hard-hitting, shifted play back to Ashburton's 25, where, is remained till the last 10 minutes. Miss Andrews broke away again for Ashburton and with the assistance of Miss Thomas, got the ball to the circle, where she registered a prettv goal, amidst much applause. From this out, Ashburton kept attacking, but the game ended in favour of Timaru by 2 j goals to-1. Mr C. Nottingham was the referee. The Timaru ladies entertained the Ashburton team at Budd's Cafe at the conclusion of the game.
