HONOURED BY TOWN.

VETERAN NAPIER JOURNALIST. o 5 YEARS WITH ONE PAPER. (Special to the "Guardian.") NAPIER, September- 10. To mark his anniversary of continuous association with the •'Hawke's Bay Herald," Mr Charles Price was entertained by the Mayor (Mr C. 0. Morse), and a representative gathering of citizens yesterday. Included in the gathering were representatives of the Napier Chamber of Commerce, the Hawke's Bay Automobile Association. Napier Park Pacing Club, the Law Society., Napier Thirty Thousand Club, and members of sporting bodies with whom Mr Price has during his lifetime been associated .

The Mayor said Mr Price had given 50 years of continuous service to the one job, and they had yet to hear of any other man in the countr-- "who could eclipse such a worthy record. Mr Morse said he personally never would forget the service which Mr Price gave to the town during and after the earthquake. Mr T. M. Geddis said he .would nay his tribute to a veteran newspaperman, who held not only what was approaching a record in dailv journalism, but also possessed the distinction of being unusually versatile. Mr Price had made Kmself not only a nrolicient newspaper manager, but on the journalistic side he had a pen which most men would envy. Ho was also a competent printer, knew all the intricacies of working a newspaper from the machinery side, the typographical side, right through to the editorial. On behalf of the people of Napier, the Mayor presented Mr Price with a gold-mounted fountain pen.
