OFFICER WELCOMED.
RECEPTION BY SALVATION ARMY COLONEL A. ORSBORN IN ASHBURTON. To accord an official welcome to Ashburton to Colonel A. Orsborn, recently appointed chief secretary for New Zealand of the Salvation Army, a special meeting was held in the Ashburton Citadel last, evening, when there was o, large attendance. Colonel Orsborn was accompanied by Commissioner J. Cunningham (leader of the Army in New Zealand) and Major A. Suter, of Christchurch. Other visiting officers were Adjutant Radeliffe, Captain Cobbe Lieutenant Hawker, of Timaru, and Lieutenant Murray, of Geraldine. Commissioner Cunningham, who presided at the meeting, introduced Colonel Orsborn and a warm welcome to tbe new officer was extended by Major Sutor, on behalf of the Canterbury Division, Captain W. J. Thompson (Ashburton) and representatives of the various branches of the Army organisations in Ashburton.
Colonel Orsborn acknowledged the reception and gave a short address. He also sang a solo. The Ashburton Salvation Army Band under Bandmaster G. E. Argyle, played several selections during the evening.
