PRESSURE NEEDED.
ADVICE TO THE POWERS. LONDON, August 15. Only strong pressure from _ the Powers can stop the German anti-Aus-trian wireless propaganda, says the Paris correspondent of the “Manchester Guardian.” Timid demarches will not frighten .the Nazis. France is not willing to create the impression that Austrian independence concerns her alone, and will not take the initiative. She awaits British action. Tile French Government feels that the League Council should intervene, with sterner terms than in the case of Manchuria, inasmuch as the situation directly affects the peace of Europe. Some press comments suggest that failing immediate action, all may be lost. “Le Soil 1 ” hints that members of the Austrian Cabinet are already negotiating for peace with Nazis in Switzerland.
