ASHBURTON STOCK MARKET. FAT EWES MAKE 30/1. AM ADVANCE OF ABOUT 4/-. Top price for fat ewes at the Ashburton stock market to-day was 30s Icl paid for four excellent quality sheep sold on account of Mr D. Cairns (Walcnnui). Mr Cairns entered 31 hedd of fat ewes, all of which were of.higher quality than any penned at the weekly sales for some considerable time. Ewes have not reached 30s at Ashburton for some years. Mr Cairns made sales as follow: Four at 30s Id, 5 at 29s 4d, 5 at 27s lOd, 7 at 28s 7d, 2 at 27,s lOd, 4 at 27s lOd, 4 at 26s lOd. At the commencement of the sale, ewes were selling at an advance of up to 5s a head, compared with, the rates ruling last week. The entry generally was only a fair-sized one but sopie very good quality lines were offered and ewes remained about 4s in advance of last week’s values practically to the end of the sale. Wethers advanced about 2s a head to-day. Messrs Cochrane Bros. (Elgin) disposed of two fat ewes at 28s lOd and another six at 26s lOd.

Fat wethers reached 34s 4d, Messrs Cochrane Bros (Elgin) seUing two at this figure. Four sold on account of Mr R. Bremner (Fairton) brought 31s 7d, while the same vendor also made sales of five at 30s lOd and 30s 2d. Mr J. McDonald (Seafield) sold one at 30s and Mr Bremner another four at 29s lOd. Sold on account of Mr G. Hoat(Elgin), six made 29s 7d. Mrs E. M. Page (Seaview) topped the fat liogget market, disposing of four at 23s Id. Mr T. J. Lemon (Mitcham) sold two at 21s 7d and Mr J. McDonald (Seafield) two at 21s Id. Six auctioned on behalf of Mr W. G. Copland (Chertsey) realised 20s Id. Prices were as follow:
