THE ASHBURTON FESTIVAL. FINAL DAY ANNOUNCEMENTS. CONCLUDING SESSION TO-NIGHT. The Ashburton Competitions Society’s ninth annual festival this morning entered upon the final judging day sessions, and on the programme are some of the most interesting of the classes to be decided. The musical sections adjudicator was engaged throughout this morning’s session, when 27 competitors took part. This afternoon there was another full session,' the entries in five classes totalling 51. This evening the chief interest will centre in the final of the Tucker Trophy between Miss Margaret McDowell, of Dunedin, and Mr, Stanley Morgan, of Christchurch. The final presentations in the one-act play and folk dance sections will also be given and the results will be announced at the end of the session.

At an interval in the programme last eveningj Mr C. Gordon Kirk, adjudicator in the elocutionary section, recited John Masefield’s ‘‘Ballad of &t. Vincent,” and prefaced it with, a short historical sketch of the chiei naval engagements that have taken place off the Cape. He was warmly applauded and had to respond to an encore, when he' gave Kipling’s “Smugglers’ Song.” This evening, Miss Lorna Budge, the dancing section judge, will give an exhibition of tap dancing. Recalls announced up to the time the “Guardian” went to press were as follow, competitors being resident in Ashburton unless otherwise stated: —
