THE WEATHER.

A BRILLIANT DAY. Following several grey days, the sun shone brilliantly in a practically clear sky to-day and conditions out-of-doors were ideal. A light north-easterly breeze prevailed most of the day but the temperature was mild. The barometric pressure at 9 o’clock this morning was 30.19 inches, compared with 30.05 inches yesterday morning. xjJxSremeS of shade temperance yesterday and last night were 50.5 degrees and 31.1 degrees, according to registrations made at the Domain weather statoin. The figures for the previous* 24 hours were 50 degrees and 31 degrees. Five degrees of frost w r ere recorded this morning and one point of rain was registered for the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. to-day.

The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued .the following statement regarding the weather:— General inference: An intense and extensive anticyclone still covers the Tasman Sea and is moving slowly on to New' Zealand, where barometers have risen gradually since yesterday. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows:

Light to moderate and variable winds with northerlies or north-easterlies later predominating. Weather fine w ith cold night but mild day temperatures. Seas smooth to moderate.
