“MEAN AND DESPICABLE.”

“HITTING AT WOMEN AND CHILDREN.” RELIEF WORKERS’ RESOLUTION. Discussion at the meeting of the Ashburton Relief Workers’ Union committee meeting last evening included the subject of the County Council’s decision to stop wood-cutting contracts till the camps liayo been fully manned. The following resolution was carried: “That the action of the County Council’s Works Committee in stopping wood contract cutting soon after the men had started is the equivalent of a lock-out. Their action is paradoxical in that the order is that no further wood-cutting is to be allowed until the camps are filled and the men who may fill the camps will get no wood contracting. In the opinion of this committee, the action of the Council is mean and despicable inasmuch as it hits at the women and children.”
