ENTERTAINMENTS.

MAJESTIC THEATRE. "When London Sleeps,” showing finally to-night at the Majestic Theatre, is an up-to-date version of the famous old melodrama by Charles Darrell, of which the scenario has been written by H. Fowler Mear and Bernard Menvale. The action is divided between a smart gambling-den, a large country house in Hampstead, and a giant travelling fair, complete with roundabouts, swings and side-shows. Thrilling incidents include a police raid oil the gambling deu, the doping and kidnapping of the heroine in a racing car by crooks, and a spectacular fire scene when a mansion is burnt to the giouncl, and the hero and heroine make thenescape by climbing along telegraph wires and dropping to a safety sheet many feet below. BASKETBALL GAMES EVENING A very enjoyable games evening was held by the Baring Square Basketball Club in the schoolroom last evening when there was a large attendance of members and friends. A programme of various ball games had been drawn up and several novel ones were introduced. Misses F. Donaldson and G. Haydon and Mr S. G. Macfarlane were the M.C’s. “THE EISTEDDFOD” AT WATERTON. In aid of Sunday school work at Waterton, an. “Eisteddfod” or bazaar and competitions will be held in the hall on Saturday afternoon and evening, September 2. The function will bo opened by Mrs J. IT. Grigg, of Longbeach, the patron, and a large array of articles will be displayed for sale. The programme for the competitions is an extensive one, provision in the classes being made for instrumental, vocal and elocutionary entries. Several confectionery classes have also been included, as well as classes for penmanship.
