PIGEON SHOOTING.

THE METHVEN CLUB. £SO OPEN LIVE BIRD MATCH. { The annual live pigeon match for a stake of £SO was held by the Methyen 'Gun Club on the Mount Harding raee,'course yesterday afternoon, heavy rain ■followed by snow during the previous night, made conditions unpromising, but just before mid-day the weather cleared and the programme was put through in fine but cold conditions. There was a very satisfactory attendance of shooters, who came from as far afield as Bluff and Hawke's Bay, and it is evident that the fixture, which 'is the first of the Grand National open shoots to be held during the coming week, is as popular as ever. Moreover, this shoot is considered a good try out for other similar matches which follow. There was a good light and the pigeons were a good and fast lot, which placed shooters on their mettle. With the President (Mr S. H. Anderson, the officials carried out their duties in a satisfactory manner, while Mr L. Ebert made an efficient refereeAfternoon tea in charge of Mesdames S. H. Anderson, A. W. Bremer and Miss A. E. Bremer, was provided for shooters and the large attendance of spectators. , The £SO open live pigeon match, 10 birds, attracted 22 competitors, the principal scores being:—

Those with ten kills each divided the prize. A prize for the best unplaced per•formance for club shooters was divided by C. A. Franks and W. Anderson. A first-miss-out sweepstake pigeon match was devided by T. S. Harrison, J. G. Watkins, L. C. Lemon, J. T. Corbett and W. Anderson, each with five birds." A first-miss-out sweepstake was divided by J. Winchester, C. Wilson, T. Gordon and W. Anderson;, each having live birds. The programme was concluded with a six-bird (pigeon) match for a sweepstake, all off 28 yards, which resulted: S. H.
