METROPOLITAN TROTTING CLUB. ROI L'OR'S NEW RECORD. (Special to the "Guardian.") CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's Easter meeting v/as concluded yesterday in warm j.nd fine weather. Stiff northerly winds made the day unpleasant during the early part of the programme, but it became calm and congenial for the last three races. A good and representative attendance patronised the enclosures. An interesting card of events was witnessed, the afternoon's racing concluding with a marvellous performance on the part of Roi l'Or, who, in winning the Highclass Handicap from 48yds behind, and registering 2min 37 l-ssec, established a record for a mile and a quarter in Australia and New Zealand. The previous best was also recorded by Roi l'Or when he beat Harold Logan in the Free-for-All in November. On that occasion, he paced the ten furlongs in 2min 38 l-ssec. During the day the sum of £9972 10s was invested on the straight-out machine and £14,191 on the place totalisator. For the two clays the investments on the straight-out machine totalled £20,039 and on the place machine £31,979 making a grand total of £52,018 as against £46,730 for the corresponding meeting last ysar. Six months' disqualification was imposed on C, Jarden by the Board of the New Zealand Trotting Association last evening for allegedly supplying false information in connection with the sale of the trotter Nutric. METHVEN TROTTING CLUB. The committee of the Methyen Trotting Club met on Tuesday evening. There were present Messrs S. G. Holmes (chairman), W. J. Cooksley, R. D. Millar, H. Green, J. H. McKendry, J. Campbell, J. McCloy, W. S. Jones, and F. S. McDonald. The New Zealand Trotting Conference forwarded letters in connection with the win and place system, and advised that no extra permits were available this season. The Treasury Department advised that only H per cent, rebate would be allowed on the last meeting. The secretary presented an interim report of the financial position, which was considered satisfactory. Mr Jones reported that sheep had accidentally been grazing on the course and that repairs were needed to the boundary fence near the storm water channel. The secretary was instructed to have these repairs put in hand.

It was resolved to adopt the win and place system. The chairman brought up the question of holding a race such as Methyen Futurity Stakes. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs S. Cr. Holmes, J. H. McKendry, J. Campbell, J. McCloy, F. S. McDonald, and Jer. MeAnulty was appointed to go into the matter, and report. The question of a new course for the water-race through the club's property was left, to the Grounds Committee for action. A.J.C. MEETING AT RANDWICK WHNOOKA WINS AGAIN. The attendance numbered 21,000. The track was in good order. The Doncaster winner, Winooka, easily accounted for the opposition in the All-Aged Plate, clearing out in the straight and winning with five lengths to spare. Autopay, despite the services of the crack jockey, W. Duncan, behaved badly at the barrier and gave the field two lengths' start. First Acre, carrying No. 1 saddlecloth in the City -Handicap, made a bold showing turning for home, but was unable to 'sustain his effoi"t, finishing in the middle of the field. With the first three horses finishing slightly mere than a nose apart, Up won the featured race at the Tanforan ■track to-day, covering the course of 170 feet less than six furlongs in 1.10 2*5, Up was a nose in front of Tea Trader, the New Zealand importation, whp was running his first race in the United States. Tea Trader made a whirlwind finish to .-nose out Sarazen for second place. STONY HURST STUD. ENGLISH SIRE SECURED. Another well-bred English sire will be available in Canterbury for the next breeding season. This is the twelve-year-old Magnus, who has been secured for the Stonyhurst Stud by Sir Charles Clifford from his cousin, Captain Charles Moore, of Mooresfort Stud, a well-known Irish stud, in Tipperary. Magnus is by the unbeaten grey horse, The Tetrareh, sire of Chief Ruler and Tea Tray, from Princess Dorrie, by Your Majesty from Doris. He was bred by Mr J. B. Joel, and represents some of the most successful blood in his stud. Princess Dorrie, winner of the One Thousand Guineas and Oaks,, is a half-sister to Sunstar, winner of the Two Thousand Guineas and Derby, while the Persimmon horse, Your Majesty, the sire of Princess Dorrie, is a St. Leger winner. Magnus did a little racing and won a mile race at Newmarket as a three-year-old. He has had seyeral seasons at Captain Moore's stud in Ireland, where has has left some promising stock. He is expected to arrive here about September and he should be a valuable addition to the breeding stock of the Dominion.
