(From Our Own Correspondents.) MAYFIELD The monthly meeting of the Mayfield branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union was held in the A. and P. Rooms on Saturday afternoon, the president '(Mrs Withell) presiding over a small attendance. Mrs J. A. Fleming (president of Mid-Canterbury branch of the division) gave an interesting address "on the work the division was doing in New Zealand and intimated that the New Zealand branch intended publishing a monthly journal. Ht was announced .that the annual meeting would be held toward the end of April, when a programme for the coming year's work would be drawn up. St. Mary's (Anglican) Church was packed last evening with a congregation to pay respect to the memory of the late Mrs D. Duff, who all her life was a faithful worker of the church. The Rev. E. A. Osmers conducted the service. Mrs L. Goodrich was organist. The Harvest Thanksgiving Service ot the Mayfield Presbyterian Church was held yesterday morning, the Rev. A. D. Kirkland conducting the service. The gifts are to be send to Presbyterian Orphanage in Christchureh. The annual meeting of the Mavfield sub-branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Band Hail on Saturday afternoon, Mrs Bundle (president of the Ashburton branch) presiding over a large attendance. Miss Gates (secretary of tho Ashburton branch) was also present. The election of officers resulted: President, Mrs G. B. Murdoch; vice-president, Mrs D. J. Morrow; hon. vice-president, Mrs Thomas Corbett; secretary, Mrs It. J. MbKeown: treasurer, Mrs J. D. Murdoch; committee, Mesdames A. Murdoch, R. Austin, H. Branch, J. D. King, G. J. Murdoch, G.! Mulligan, J. Moore, Joseph Murdoch, J. McCormick, R. 'J. Mulligan, A. Morrison, N. B. Morrow, J. H. Patterson, L. R. Harrison, 0. iDiunstan, G. N. Harrison, A. D. Kirkland, H. 0. Barton, W. K. Dellow, G. H. Clements, J. J. Mulligan and L. C. Mcllroy: delegates to the Ashburton branch, Mrs D. J. Morrow and Mrs G B. Murdoch. Mrs Rundle congratulated tho branch on its excellent position. The nurse's report for the year's work w,as as follows: There were 24 visits made to the district and 96 homes visited and 13 telephone calls received ; adults to rooms, 82; babies to rooms, 79; pre-school children, 13; making a'total of 174 callers. There were 16 new cases for the year. The attendance at the room has net been so good during the last .year owing no doubt to bad times and, of course, fewer new cases. The opening day of the Mayfield Football Club was held on Saturday afternoon with a fair fielding of players, who held a practice in preparation for the coming competition. A senior and junior team are entered. MOUNT SOMERS. The monthly meeting of the Mount Somers Women's Institute wai-jheld in the library on Wednesday afternoon. Tho president (Mi's G. L. Hood) occupied the chair, there being over 30 members present. Two new members were elected. M;gs Quantock was added to the committee. An interesting demonstration in "bottling foods" was given by Mrs J. W. Morrow, for which she was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mesdames G. L. Hood and W. J. Comyns were appointed delegates to the annual meeting of the South Canterbury Federation" of Women's Institutes at Geraldine. A roll call suggesting the best competition for demonstration proved popular. A competition for a jar of preserves was won by Mrs W. A. H. Sharpe, Mrs G. L. Hood being second. In an amusing competition, "naming the advertiser," Misses G. Morgan and E. . Scott were equal first. The sales table was in charge of Miss N. Hepburn. The hostesses were Mrs J. Quantock, jun., and Miss Qnantock.

A harvest festival service was held at the- Mount Somers" Presbyterian Church yesterday morning. There was a large congregation. The service was conducted by the Rev. Ci. R. jardine. Mrs L. Prebble was organist. The church was decorated with grain, fruit, vegetables and other home products, which will be forwarded to the Presbyterian Orphanage at Christchurch. Mr and Mrs J. Thompson have left the district to reside at Addington. Mr and Mrs A. Harvey, of Anama, took up their residence at "Dudley Grove," Mount Somers last week. A meeting of those interested in the WE.A. class was held in the parish room, when the question of continuing the classes was deferred until the next meeting a month hence. A short play, "Rabbits," was read. As a result of an electrical storm from tiie north-west last night, 19 -Toints of rain were recorded this morning, making a total of' over, three-quar-ters of an inch during the last 10 clays. A frost of two degrees was registered this morning.

SPRINGBURN-STAVELEY A Harvest Thanksgiving Service was held in the Staveley Presbyterian Church last evening, there being a crowded congregation. The Rev. G. B. Jardine conducted the service. Mrs S. T. Goldsmith was organist. Solos were given by Miss B. Gundry and Miss N. Norman. The church was tastefully decorated with autumn flowers, fruit, grain and produce. Reference was made to the passing away of the church's senior elder, Mr G. McFarlane. HINDS. There was an attendance of 28 young people at the weekly Bible Study Circle held at the Vicarage on Thursday evening. There was a very large attendance at St. Luke's Church last evening when Miss M. Woods, a missionary on leave from China, gave a very interesting address about tlic life of China. She showed pictures of the Chinese people. Bright and sunny weather prevailed at Hinds throughout the week-end.
