BANKING RETURNS.

THE QUARTERLY FIGURES. INCREASE IN DEPOSITS. (Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 6. The bank returns for the quarter ended March 31 show that Government deposits, compared with those for the corresponding quarter last year, increased by £624,839. Free deposits increased by £462,460, and fixed deposits increased by £742,699. Advances decreased by £1,584,803, and discounts decreased by £147,260. Note circulation increased bv £129,796, while coin and bullion decreased by £1,385,035. The comparative quarterly figures were as follow:
