THE WEATHER.
A BRIGHT, CLEAR DAY. Conditions in Ashburton yesterday were dull, but, following a cold night, to-day broke bright and clear and the sun shone in a cloudless sky all day. There was only a light breeze from the northeast, and conditions were most pleasant. Extremes of shade temperature recorded at the Domain weather-station yesterday and last night were 54.9 degrees and 35 degrees, compared with readings of 61 degrees and 46.6 degrees on Wednesday. , „ , . , The barometric pressure at 9 o clock this morning was 30.19 inches, compared with -30.23 inches yesterday morning. ■_ . r . For the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. today a fall of half a point of rain was recorded. This fell yesterday morning between 9 o’clock and 10 o’clocl?. TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at nooii to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General inference: The anticyclone referred -to during the last few days is still intensfe and is now centred East of Cook Strait. A cyclone is located over the western Tasman Sea. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: — Freshening northeast to northerly winds. Weather fair to fine, with rising temperature, but clouds increasing and unsettled conditions, likelv after about 24 hours. Seas moderate, southerly swell now decreasing.
