MOSLEM FESTIVAL.
COLOURFUL CALCUTTA SCENES. (United Press Association—Copyright). CALCUTTA, April 6. Impressive scenes were witnessed in Calcutta to-d,ay in the great. Mohammedan festival of Bakrid. Countless thousands in the gayest garb congregated at the mosques to offer prayer. The remainder of the day was spent in, holiday making. The poor were not forgotten, and the supplications of thousands of beggars who lined the pavements were rewarded. Elaborate precautions were taken by the police to prevent disturbances, as this is the favourite day for communal warfare. The scene was repeated on a smaller scale in every town and village in India.
