CROQUET.

THE ASHBURTON CLUB. A pleasant afternoon was spent by members of the Asiiburton Croquet Club on the lawns yesterday, wnen they were entertained to afternoon tea b.v the club captain (Mrs 4'. W. Watt). A croquet competition was played, the prizes being awarded to the following;—Mesdames J. Smith (A section), E. N. Johnson (B section), W. Acton (C section), and E. A. Cockroft (D section). At the conclusion of the afternoon the president (Mrs John Lane) thanked Mrs Watt for her hospitality. Mrs Watt was accorded musical honours. THE METHVEN CLUB. The Methven Croquet Club brought a very successful season to a close on Wednesday afternoon, when members and their friends spent a most enjoyable time on the green. Several novel competitions were held. There was a bring-and-buy stall and as a result the club will benefit to a considerable extent. The prizes won during the season were presented to the successful competitors by the patron (Mrs J. A. Callaghan), who congratulated the winners on their success. '■ The winners were: —Akarana Trophy, Mrs S. Robinson; runner-up, Mrs Jas. Duff; Allan Trophy (aggregate for golf croquet), Mrs H. Thompson; Cookson consolation prize, Miss Crawley. The closing day putting was won by Mrs H. Fiyer. The captain thanked those who had Assisted to make the afternoon a success.
