(From Our Own Correspondents.) METHVEN. The monthly meeting of. the Mcthven Mothers’ Union was lielcf yesterday afternoon, All’s Stanley Smith presiding over a good attendance. In response to an appeal a large quantity of garments was received, and it was decided that these be shared by St. Saviour’s Orphanages and the relief deuots in Christchurch. Airs Ashley Dean contributed an interesting reading. Afternoon tea was dispensed. The hostesses were Mesdames J. Ri. /Dalton and E. AT. W atson. SEAFiELD. At a meeting of the AA’omen’s Division of the Tjow Zealand Farmers’ Union, Mrs F. Johnson presided. A motion of sympathy was passed with Airs Davis in her recent bereavement. An interesting demonstration was given by Mrs J. Gregory on soft-toy making. A competition for three varieties of pickles was won by Miss AI. Bennison, with Mrs Henry second and Airs Davis third. A competition for a six-months’ syllabus was won by Aliss 11. Johnson, with Airs Henry second and Aliss M. Bennison third/ The aggregate points prizes for the year was won by Aliss AI. Bennison, with 22 points, Mrs Henry second with 17 points, and Aliss AI. Robertson third, with eight points. The hostesses were Mesdames J. Bruce, A. P. Bruce and A. Bennison. At the annual meeting, the secretary presented the balance-sheet which showed a profit of £1 19s. The president’s report showed a satisfactory year, with 30 members and an average attendance dr 24. The following officers were elected: President, Mrs F. Johnson; vice-presi-dent, Mrs Henry ;■ secretary and treasurer, Aliss C. AT. Bennison; advisory members, Alesdames F. Johnson and J. Gregory; committee, Alesdames Johnson, Henry, Driscoll, Alartin, Bennison, McDonald, and' Gregory; delegates, Mesdames Johnson, Henry, and McDonald. RUAPUNA. There as a large attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Ruapuna branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union, which was held on Wednesday afternoon. Airs AV. J. Allan occupied the chair.- Several new members were present. The secretary (All’s J. Aloore) presented the balancesheet, which showed a credit balance of £5 18s BJd. The.following officers were elected: President, Airs AY. J. Allan; vice-president, Airs R. AlcKeown • secretary, Air J. Aloore; treasurer, Aliss L. Boyd ; committee, Alesdames J. _D. King, J. Clifford and A. Bovd. There was a good entry in the competition for the best plate of biscuits. The winner was Aliss Lucy Boyd, with Aliss A. Reckley second and Airs J. Aloore third. Mrs F. Tasker was the judge. Arrangements were made for the committee to meet on Thursday evening, when the best syllabus with mottoes for the year will lie .judged, and the competition for next month decided. It was resolved that in future the meetings will he held in the hall. The bring and buy table did brisk*business. Afternoon tea was provided by members. COLDSTREAM. The Coldstream Road Board met yesterday. The members present were Messrs G. Tait (chairman), AV. AI. Bruce, J. AA’. Dell. J. O. Guinness and W. AlcKeage. Air AA T . AI. Bruce tendered his resignation, having disposed of his farm and removed to Ashburton. The chairman said it was with regret that they were compelled to accept Air Bruce’s resignation. He spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr Bruce as a member, neighbour and friend. Messrs Guinness, AlcKeage and IDell heartily endorsed Air Tait’s remarks. Notice of transfer from Reginald AA’. Holland to Airs James Holland was received. The County Council notified that for three months 6cl per rat tail would be onid. (It was decided to further reduce the rate for the .ensuing year, the levy to be confirmed at next meeting. WESTER FIELD. There was a good attendance of members at the mjjetigg of the AA’osterfield branch of the..AA’omen’s Division of the Farmers’ Unjhn. The president (Airs H. Dillon) occupied the chair. Airs King, of Ashburton, gave an interesting demonstration on dress cutting, for which she was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Two competitions were held, one for plain scones, Alls J. F'echney being first and Aliss AlcAlullan second. Tn a class for home-made soap, AT is Stone was first and Airs McCann second. The hostesses were Airs Findlay ancl Aliss Dillon.
