PRISONERS IN CHINA. ONE RELEASED BY BANDITS. (United Press Association—Copyright). SHANGHAI, April 5. Definite threats to shoot the three British captives remaining ill the hands of the pirates unless .a huge ransom is paid were received in ii letter delivered by Mr F. Pears, the fourth captive of the raid on the Nanchang, who was released for the purpose ohlelivering the pirates' demands. He reached Newchang yesterday. The authorities are given until April 10 to comply, after which the pirates propose to scatter in order to avoid a possible punitive expedition. Mr Pears reported that the other captives were well treated, but he refused to disclose their whereabouts since the fate of his comrades depended on a promise given to the bandits to keep their lair secret.
