, FIFTY YEARS SYNE. (From the "Guardian," April 6, 1883.) The Town Hail.—-The directors of • the Ashburton Town Hall have decided to considerably alter and improve the Town Hal). The stage is to be made longer, the floors of the anterooms will be raised to the stage level, and about twenty feet will be added to the rear of the building, where dressing rooms will be erected. Alterations in" the seating accommodation are also contemplated. The directors have purchased a portion of land from Mr Shearman at the rear of the hall. Land at Seafield.—A farm belonging to Mr Bryan O'Connor, at Seafield, containing 300 acres, has just changed hands at the very satisfactory price of £1175, Mr Hugh Kennedy being the purchaser. Considering the quality of the land, the above figure may he considered a very good price. We learn that land generally is improving in value in the* Ashburton County. Accepted Tenders.—At the meeting of the Board of Education on Thursday, the following tenders were cepted:—Masters' houses—P. (From the "Guardian,". April 6, 1908.) JLO.O.F. Meeting.—A meeting of the 1.U.0.F., JN.Z., was held m tne Masonic Hall last evening. There was a good attendance or brethren, and the chair was occupied by Bro. itf (Service, iS -G. Among those present were Bro. Crawley, Grand Master, and Bro. Cushwortn, of Christchureh. • Two members were proposed for membership, and Bro, Crawley < delivered an interesting and instructive address on the aims and objects of the Order. In' doing so, he incidentally showed those present the high jjosition in which their Order stood among the world's Friendly Societies. A vote of thanks to Bro.
