MAORI SHIELD.
THE AUSTRALIAN SWIMMERS. (Per Press Association) ROTORUA, April 5. At a special function held at the Ohinemutu Pa last evening the visil> ing Australian swimming team, 0. Griffiths, F. Griffiths, V. Besomo, and C. Phillips, were entertained at a large Maori gathering at which a specially carved Maori shield was presented as the gift of the Arawa Tribe to the New South Wales Swimming Association. It was suggested by Mr T. Tai Mitchell, who made the presentation on behalf of the Ohinemutu Swimming Club, that the trophy should be allocated for the New South Wales 100yds championship. The gift was made as recognition of the interest taken by the team in developing Maori swimmers.
