AUSTRALIAN TARIFF.

IMPORTERS HOPE FOR REVISION. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, Oct. 29. At a meeting of the council of the Wellington Importers’ Association yesterday the president (Mr Salmond) referred to the desirability of the Government effecting a revision of the Australian tariff agreement. The matter, ho said, had been brought under the notice of the Government and representations had been made that action should he taken at a later date. At an interview with the authorities lie had been assured that the Government was giving the subject serious consideration and that it was hoped something in the direction desired would he effected in the near future. Mr Salmond also said that the association had received an official reply from the Government regretting that in the meantime the association’s suggestion to the Government to adopt the par rate of conversion for duty purposes could not be complied with.
