REPORT RIDICULED.

THE HIGH COMMISSIONERSHIP. (Special to the "Guardian.") WELLINGTON, Oct. 27. A report is current in Auckland today that Mr Coates intends to go to England as High Commissioner, or resident Minister, and that Mr W. Goodfellow would contest the then vacant Kaipara seat, with a view to assuming the leadership of the Reform Party. This report is ridiculed by Mr Forbes.

"There is absolutely nothing in it," he said this morning. "It is a most fantastic story. No changes of any sort are contemplated or known of." The opinion was expressed in other Ministerial circles that the rumour was of a leg-pulling variety, and was too absurd* to warrant the courtesy of fi formal denial. It was suggested that the story possibly originated from the fact that some months ago Cabinet gave a measure of consideration to the idea, following the policy adopted by Australia of appointing a resident Minister in London, although it was subsequently decided to abandon the proposal.
