FROZEN MEAT TRADE.
SHIPMENTS TO BRITAIN. FACTOR OF SOUTH AMERICA. (United Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.50 a.m.) LONDON, October 25. An authoritative trade opinion considers that the position of the meat market is the worst in history. Australian importers consult to-morrow and hope to confer with Mr S. M. Bruce,within 48 hours with a view to pressing for intervention by the British Government. Nevertheless, the suggestion for a reduction for South America comes at an unfortunate moment, because the carcases of mutton and lamb at present afloat aggregate as follow: Australian, 725,000, compared with 555,000 this time last year; New Zealand, 390,000, compared with 275,000; River Plate, 115,000, compared with 239,000. South America is already reducing the quarter's shipments by 40 per cent. The prices of lamb at present are: New Zealand 5Jd, compared with with B£d in October last year; Australian 4sd, compared with Bd.
