A NARROW ESCAPE.
FIRE DESTROYS HOMESTEAD. MAN RESCUED BY NEPHEW. (Per Press Association). BLENHEIM, This ©ay. The Blythfield homestead, one of the oldest residences in Marlborough, was destroyed by fire at midnight on Saturday. It was a wooden-two-story structure of 20 rooms, owned and occupied by Messrs Horgan Brothers. The origin of the not known. Two men who were upstairs narrowly escaped. One, Mr Con Horgan, was overcome by smoke and could not reach the ladder. His nephew, Mr Vincent Horgan, wrapped a. cloth about liis head, mounted a lauaer, and rescued his uncle only just in time. The house insured for £IOOO and the contents tor £3OO, both in the Commercial Union office.
