Mr W. L. Cranfield, Mayfield, has been gazetted as a postmaster entitled to take and receive statutory declarations.
Mr H. A. Templar (manager of the Ashburton branch of tne Bank of New South Wales) is on sick leave, being confined to his bed.
Sympathetic reference to the death of Mr Angus Horsey was made by the Rev. A. G. Ir.vine at the morning service at St. Andrevvs Presbyterian Church yesterday, and he paid a tribute to the truly Christian character borne by Mr Horsey.
In recognition of his long services for the Wakanui 'Presbyterian Church, of which he has been a committeeman for 25 years and secretary for 21 years, Mr A. "Wilson was on Saturday evening made the recipient of a fountain pen by the Church Jubilee Committee.
The Rev. R, Blair, of Owaka, and Moderator of the Clutha Presbytery, who was Home Missioner at the Wakanui Presbyterian Church 22 years ago, was in Ashburton for the jubilee celebrations. Last evening he conducted the service at St. Andrew’s Church. Ashburton.
The Right Rev. Adam Begg, of Timaru, Aloderator of the Presbyterian General Assembly, who preached at the Jubilee Service of the Wakanui Presbyterian Church yesterday afternoon, occupied the pulpit at tlie Tinwald Church in the evening.
Dr. AI. B. N. Tweed (medical advisor to the Central Council of the Plunket Society), who spoke at the annual meeting at the Ashburton branch of the society, visited the Ashburton Public Hospital on Saturday, taking a great interest in the children’s ward. Dr. Tweed left for Dunedin this morning.
Air and Airs H. F. Nieoll, of “iPenscroft,” Ashburton, will leave early tomorrow for Christchurch, on their way to Auckland, where they will embark on the Rangitiki.on Friday for England. They intend to leave England in November on the return journey.
