LETTER TO EDITOR

GRADING OF RUGBY PLAYERS.

Sir,—When attending the match Hampstead v. Tinwald I was astounded to see Jordan playing for Hampstead. On making inquiries I found out that this is the player over whom so much discussion has taken place among members of the union. Did not the president and Mr Biggar threaten to resign (a favourite expression of the latter, but never put into effect) if Mr Robilliard's motion of no-confidence in the classification committee was carried? What pressure was brought to bear to get that committee to again wobble-as applications from other clubs had been refused. I also read in your paper that the AHenton Club applied to have a player regraded from junior to third grade knowing full well that the time had passed for the grading of a player from a higher to a lower grade. Metbinks Mr McLachlan let the cat out of the bag when he made the astounding statement (in support of the application) that he had been approached by members of the AHenton Club some time ago re the grading of this player, but the AHenton Club had forgotten to make an application. What a lame excuse. Ido not in any way blame the clubs mentioned for their persistency in their application, but consider that the action of the Classification Committee has held them up to ridicule and made them a laughing stock. One member stated that the apology from the Technical-Club to a referee was a joke. Not half as big a joke as some of the actions of the members of the Rugbv Union this season. An explanation of this matter is due to all affiliated clubs awaiting a reply. For the present I will sign myself ANOTHER LITTLE WOBBLE WILL NOT DO US ANY HARM.
