A growing resentment against the Reds was a feature of the May Day demonstrations throughout the Dominion.

At Timmins (Ontario) the police were forced to restrain spectators who were determined to break up a Communists’ parade. At Vancouver the Reds’ attacks on the Mayor, public officials and police are a situation wherein a number of organisations aie offeiing to handle the Reds and challenge them to hold a prohibited parade on Saturday.

AMERICA UNUSUALLY QUIET.

NEW YORK, May 1. The/traditional International Labour Day was celebrated throughout the American Continent with unusual quiet. A crowd of 60,000 Communists and their sympathisers paraded i n lower New York, But heavy rain kept many spectators away and probably P*’ e * " vented clashes. A force of 300 police kept the paraders moving. They also guarded City Hall and other buildings. The demonstrators carried banners demanding free rent, food and employ- - ment and' denouncing capitalism.

As May Day fell on a Sunday, many demonstrations in the United States were held yesterday.
