THE RANGATIRA.
A SPLENDID VESSEL. (Special to "The Guardian.") - AUCKLAND, October 17. A floating electric generating station is the Rangatira, the new ferry steamer, which docked at Port Chalmers after a passage of forty days from Greenock dock. "A.fine ship in every way," said Captain W. Martin. "Wonderfully equipped and easily manoeuvred," said an officer. "Absolutely vibrationless and remarkably efficient," said an engineer. "A great seaboat," said a steward. Those were the opinions of members of the Rangatira's complement after their experience of the new steamer oil the trip to New Zealand. Rakish in appearance, with a minimum of superstructure _ and a cruiser stern, the Rangatira's lines are indicative of speed. On her trials she attained a speed of 22 knots without developing, the full overload capacity of her machinery, and her manoeuvreability and seaworthiness promise to make her a very popular ship in the ferry service. The first turbo-electrical vessel to reach New Zealand or Australian waters, the Rangatira is up-to-date in every respect.
