THE TARIFF ISSUE.
LABOUR LEADER'S VIEWS. (United Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, October 18. "Mr Philip Suowden knows that Ins statement that the Labourites voted for immediate tariffs travesties the facts, said Mr Arthur Henderson, at Accrington "There never was any question of the majority of the Cabinet members approving the principle of tariffs. It was simplv a question of the lesser of two evils.' Mr Snowden evidently wants to commit his former colleagues to everv tentative suggestion during the long-ocmplicated conversations. W'hv does he not apply the same standards to Mr MacDonald?" Mr William Graham, at Edinburgh. declared: All that the majority of the Cabinet said was that they would rather support a small revenue tantt than a cut in the dole. They also insisted that such a choice was utterly unnecessary, and later abandoned the whole idea of a tariff. Lord Cecil and Sir C. Oman Con. were returned unopposed tor Uxtorci University. The Conservatives now returned total forty-nine. Mr Herbert Wihson Liberal candidate for Nunneaton. has joined the Simon liberals, who now number forty.
