HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.
The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram dated August 15 from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:—■ Tallow.—Very little demand at auction at slightly lower prices. Of 784 casks offered 48 were sold. Present quotations for spot are:—Mutton: Fine 225, fair to good 19s 6d to 21s, dark to dull 16s 6d to 17s 6d. Beef: Sweet and/or mixed 21s to 22?, fair to good 18s to 20s 6d, dark to dull 15s to 17s. Mixed: Fair, to good 17s 6d to 20s 6d, dark to dull 15s to 17s. Gut, etc:*lss to 17s. Fruit.—Trade slower with current prices for New. Zealand apples same as last quotation.

(Received This Day, 9.0 a.m.), LONDON, August 17. The Bradford wool market is quiet. Merino tops are steady, but erossbreds are a shade easier.
CLEARING SALE AT ASHBURTON FORKS.
A clearing sale on account, of Mr R. Lamb was conducted by the National Mortgage and Agency Company, Limited, at Ashburton Forks yesterday, when the' following prices were realised for Jive stock:— Sheep— Eightv four, six and eighttooth ewes at 12s, 80 ditto at lis 7d, 133 ditto at 15s 6d 140 ditto at 15s Bd, 44 ewes and lambs at ss, 44 soundmouthed ewes at 6s Id. Horses—Draught gelding, 5 years, £32; ditto, 7 years, £29; ditto, 8 years, £22: draught mare, 5 years, £24; ditto, 6 years, £3O; ditto 9 years, £24; mare, aged, £25; two fillies ±,lo and £2O 10s. nt Cattle—One springer at £4. two ditto at! £3 10s" each, one springing heifer at £5 10s.
