DARING SWINDLE.

SYDNEY, June 12. The theft of £SOOO from the Australian Bank of Commerce-on December 14, 1929, had its sequel at the Quarter Sessions to-day, when Arnold Walker, aged 42, was sentenced to five Years’ imprisonment, William Evans, aged 49, to four years’, and Joseph Wall, aged 58, to two years The Judge expressed the opinion tha* the bank staff had displayed negligence.
A daring swindle that cost the Australian Bank of Commerce £SOOO, vas perpetrated by two men on December 14 1929. A branch of the bank received a telephone message, allegedly from the National Bank, asking ior £SOOO in notes. Ten minutes later two men arrived with a warrant from the National Bank, authorising the payment of the money. The notes vc-re handed over and the two men departed without hindrance. Some hours later the National Bank received the warrant in the course of the usual exchanges. As the signatures were forged the bank refused to pass the d' cument, and the swindle was discovered
