i DUMPING IN LONDON. GOOD PRICE FOR, “SECONDS.” (Special to “The Guardian.”) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The activities of the Meat Boat’d were discussed at the general meeting of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association last night, when the question of marketing “seconds” was raised. “We are clumping everything into London, ’ said Mr H. C. Lawrence. “Why not have some of the meat going to other parts? The West of England and Scot and want oi*r second class meat, while London does not. Why sacrifice it in the London market? Tt is a. mat:er lor the association to take up with the Moat Board. Also, there is the matter of shipping third class meat.' Mr John Deans: It is a matter for the Meat Board. I must say that meat has been shipped to the west of Fngland and to Scotland and the returns were poor. “I am * urpvised that Mr Lawrence should advocate the shipping of third class meat.” Mr Deans continued. “There is one thing that New Zealand must keep up and that is the standard of its exports.” / “Why let >'i go at that?” asked Mr W. K. Me Alpine. “It is not witfioiro our province to criticise the Meat Board. I will say definitely that ‘‘lungs were just as good when there was nr levies. The 1 oard does a cercai.i amount of work but only work which should be done in the ordinary course of events by New Zeeland Government officials m London The shipping companies are experts and the Meat Board members are not. “I should he very sorry to see the Meat Board done away with,” said Mr W. W. Westenra. “I have seen what they are doing in England and I know the” value of their work.” Mr L. R. C. Macfarlane (chairman): I am on the committee of the Meat Board and I can tell you that many avenues are being explored in connection with the export of meat.” Air James Deans: We should concentrate on getting relief from the present dumping of meat on the market. Mr Lawrence moved that the Moat Board he asked whether it. was possible to load certain boats with certain grades 'of meat and that the hoard should he asked to make inquiries as to the. best markets for the different grades. The motion was carried.
