(From Our Own Correspondents.) METHVEN. A meeting of the committee of the Methven Amateur Swimming Club was held on Wednesday evening, Mr It. i’. Renai presiding. The secretary reported on the result of the recent interchip carnival, w/ich had proved successful in spite of adverse weather. From a financial point of view, the function was not quite ijie success anticipated ; nevertheless, there was a small credit balance. It was decided to hold a elose-of t lie-sea son tomorrow afternoon, with a programme of nine events. HINDS. The annual meeting of the Hind's Ladies’ Hoekev Club was held yesterday, the Rev. EL Hanna presiding over a good attendance. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £3 os.. Officers were elected as follow: —President, Mrs J. M Hampton; vice-presidents, Mesdames S. Watson, Lowe, Middlemas and Messrs Cain, Donaldson, E. W atson, Maidens and Morrin; secretary, Miss M. Lowe; captain, Mrs Hanna; vice-captaim, Miss A. Donaldson; committee, the secretary, captain, vicecaptain and l the Rev. Hanna, Mrs Middlemas, Misses B. Watson and M. Donaldson; coach, the Rev. E. Hanna; Selection Committee, the coach, captain and vice-captain; auditor, Mr S. Watson. It was arranged to hold a working bee next Thursday to get the ground in order, the opening practice to take place on the following Thursday. It was left to the secretary to arrange friendly matches prior to the the commencement of competition games. A vote of thanks was extended to Mr Hanna for his services as coach. RAKAIA. The opening meeting of the Rakaia branch of the Mothers’ Union was held yesterdav afternoon. A service in St. Mark’s Church was conducted' byi the Rev. A. H. Barnett, who gave an interesting address on “The Objects of the Mothers’ Union.” Three new members were admitted/ Afterwards, in St. Mark’s Schoolroom, Mi* Barnett presided over a. good attendance. The secretary (Mr S. Cooke) reported that 36 members had attended the Mothers Union Conference at Christchurch in February. Motions of sympathy with Mrs Bayliss, of Tinwald, and Mr Harry Trevella, who are ill, were passed. It was decided! to ask Miss Parks, the Sunday schools’ organiser, to give an address at the April meeting. Many gifts of crockery for members of. the Mothers’ Union in the earthquake area at Napier and Hastings were handed in in response to an appeal from Mrs West-Watson.
