COMMERCIAL NEWS

GRAIN AND PRODUCE. THE ASHBURTON MARKET. Merchants report that it is now practically impossible to sell y/lieat of my description. Southern millers adrise that they are now obtaining; extra good quality wheat in their own districts. Ail odd sale of very good Tuscan has been put through at 5s Id on trucks, with Hunters at 5s .‘id; to 5s 4d. The hulk of the wheat now offering will not pass as milling wheat and in most cases will have to be disposed of on sample. The fowl wheat market has also eased and values are at least 3d per bushel below those of last week. It is quite evident that a large proportion of the wheat will have to 1 go in the store to he graded 1 . Odd lines of Gar tons are being offered but the quality is very interior. Practically no lines of grade oats have been received so far but offerings will very likely now be more numerous seeing that the bulk of the wheat threshing has been completed. Good) dark Duns samples are now being submitted but growers are asking considerably more than merchants are prepared to give. Sales are reported at 2s Gd to 2s 9d on trucks, but inferior lines are unsaleable. Algerians are not inquired for at Is lOd. Samples of cocksfoot and/ ryegrass are still being offered but very little interest is being taken in these commodities. Good heavy cocksfoot is saleable at 2}d to 3d a lb. Western Wolths and Italian grass-seed are weak at Is 9d, while Perennial is uninquired for at 2s 6d.
