MISSIONARY UNION.
METHODIST WOMEN MEET. The monthly meeting of tTie Ashburton branch of the Alethod'ist Women's Missionary Union was held in the Baring Square Schoolroom yesterday afternoon, Sister Alihlrcd (vice-presi-dent) occupying the chair. The treasurer reported that the.proeceds from the Silver Tree effort amounted to £2O 10s 2d. The sum of £ls was voted to the Sisters’ Salaries’ Fund. Airs B. H. Carter was appointed assistant to the Missionary Box Secretary (Airs G. Fowke). The New Zealand President’s quarterly letter was received and read, and deep sympathy was expressed with the sufferers in the recent Hawke’s Bay disaster. The writer reminded members that tlicir responsibilities were increased by the misfortunes of their friends and appealed to all for an increase in subscriptions. An earnest appeal was also made on behalf of the Alaori Girls’ College, Ojtehunga, which was opened on January 20, An interesting and gratifying report of kindergarten work in the Solomon Islands during 1930 was received from Sister Lina Jones and was much appreciated. The activities of the Social Committee were discussed, and arrangements made for the remainder of the year. Mrs Featlierston expressed the regret the members felt at parting with Airs Tinsley, and thanked her for what sue had done in connection with the Auxiliary, wishing her every success in her future sphere of labour. Miss A. C. Watson endorsed what had been said, and Airs Tinsley feeliilgly replied. Tea was served and good business was done in connection witli'the Bring and Buy stall. The meeting closed with flic Benediction.
